It’s often said that we are our own worst enemy. If we allow our insecurities and fears to take over our lives, we end up making overly cautious decisions that don’t produce outcomes that reflect what we actually want out of life.
Are you allowing the “what ifs” to define your course of action? Here are 3 reasons why you should stop listening to self-doubt and start setting bigger goals for yourself.
1. Nothing good comes out of fear.
Let’s say that your biggest goal is to own your own successful business. You’re passionate about your product and you have loyal customers ready to buy from you, but you’re afraid of taking the risk to grow your business just in case it doesn’t quite take off.
But that kind of overly cautious thinking will limit you from doing what you really want to do. And because you don’t let yourself think that your wildest aspirations are within reach, you prevent yourself from setting big goals in the first place. Fear of failure can’t be the determining factor in how you make plans for your life.
2. If you dream big dreams, you do big things.
The outcome of your actions is merely limited by your imagination. Whatever you feed your mind usually ends up showing through your behavior. If you want to do big things, you have to think big thoughts as well.
Have the courage to ask yourself the hard questions, such as, “where do I REALLY want to be in 10 years?” or “is what I’m doing now truly helping me fulfill my dreams?” This kind of thinking helps to break you away from your comfort zone and help you start considering more significant things for yourself.
3. More time is never guaranteed.
If you don’t start setting big goals now, when will you start? There’s no good excuse to delay your dreams, especially considering that no one is guaranteed the time that we all hope we have.
Big ideas often require a lot of long-term planning and work. The earlier you start planning goals for your life, the earlier you can start inching your way toward reaching the final destination. If you want to do something that will take a lot of time and effort, there’s no better time than the present to start working towards it.
